Cornton Primary School – Air Source Heat Pump Infrastructure

Supporting the School's Transition to Low-Carbon Heating

As part of the upgrade works at Cornton Primary School in Stirling, ADR Electrical delivered the electrical infrastructure required to support the installation of a new air source heat pump system.

Working alongside the wider project team, we installed a new 50mm² three-phase submain from the school's main switchroom to the plant room, providing a dedicated supply for a new Schneider Electric panelboard. This new distribution point forms the backbone of the plant room installation, supplying both the new air source heat pump and the upgraded electrical distribution within the building.

New Three-Phase Electrical Infrastructure

As part of Cornton Primary School's transition to low-carbon heating, ADR Electrical delivered the electrical infrastructure required to support the installation of a new air source heat pump system. The works included a new three-phase submain, local power distribution and dedicated supplies to the new mechanical equipment, forming an integral part of the school's wider decarbonisation programme.

Air Source Heat Pump Power Supply

From the newly installed panelboard, ADR Electrical installed a dedicated power supply serving the new air source heat pump, providing the electrical connection required for the school's upgraded heating system.

The installation formed a key part of the wider mechanical works, with all cabling, terminations and final connections completed to support the commissioning of the new low-carbon heating equipment. The project also included a new supply from the panelboard to an upgraded three-phase distribution board within the plant room, providing modern, organised electrical distribution for the associated plant services.

Plant Room Distribution Upgrade

The existing plant room consumer unit was upgraded to a new three-phase distribution board supplied directly from the newly installed Schneider panelboard.

The upgraded distribution board provides improved circuit organisation, modern protective devices and additional capacity to support both the new plant equipment and future alterations if required

50mm² Three-Phase Supply & Schneider Panelboard

To provide the capacity required for the new heating installation, ADR Electrical installed a new 50mm² four-core XLPE/SWA/LSZH three-phase submain from the school's main switchroom to the plant room.

The new submain terminated into a Schneider Electric panelboard, supplied and installed by ADR Electrical, creating a dedicated local distribution point for the plant room. Careful planning of the cable routes and containment ensured a neat, durable installation that integrates seamlessly with the existing building services while providing a reliable electrical infrastructure for both current and future plant.
